The March Haiti Awareness Trip is cancelled. The situation
in Port au Prince & the Haut de St. Marc Valley remains critical,
now 2 weeks after the devastating earthquake of January 12th. Although
a system of supply distribution & medical help for the survivors
is in place, our contact people in Port au Prince & our Field Director
in St. Marc are in no position at present to make plans for our planned
arrival March 15th.
The trip to the Dominican Republic is still on - all arrangements have
been confirmed & all contact people there have reassured us of the
safety & security in that country now.
This decision was not made lightly, even though it may seem self-evident.
Communications with Haiti have been sporadic, devoted to the disaster
at hand & oftentimes contradictory in nature.
All trip participants have been advised re: this decision but will still
attend the pre-arranged trip meeting Feb. 7th for more detailed information
re: return of monies already paid etc.
The Immunization Clinic at the Community Health Centre has been advised
re: the number of cancellations to expect from the Haiti group. However,
the DR group should be there @ 9am as planned. Anyone from the Haiti
group who plan to travel to any part of the developing world, whether
with or without Rayjon, can attend the clinic as well if you wish to
proceed with the required immunizations.
Continue to pray for the Haitian people & all those from around
the world who are there to assist them in these stressful times.
